by Mei-Lin Hansen, directed by Dragon Chen

tickets at iticket

Set in a Manawatu market garden in mid-summer 1929, Mei-Lin Hansen's The Mooncake and The Kūmara tells of a chance encounter which leads to a blossoming romance between Yee from Long Gai, China, and Elsie, of Māori heritage. But how can love truly take root when history, duty and family secrets force Yee and Elsie to choose where they stand?

Told with a rich mix of languages - English, Māori and Cantonese - The Mooncake and The Kūmara played to sell-out audiences when it premiered at the Auckland Arts Festival in 2015 and on its subsequent tour around the motu. Seed Theatre Company is proud to present a new production of this homegrown play, directed by Dragon Chen.

Please note that this show contains a brief depiction of sexual harassment, and some racist language.

Seed Theatre presents:

Green Eyes

27 May to 4 June 2022 (note new dates)

A new play by Zane Wood

Directed by Amelia Claridge
Starring Benjamin Hudson and Daniela Vinagre

Pitt St Sunday School Hall, 78 Pitt St, Auckland City

Green Eyes follows a complex angst-ridden web of infatuations amongst high school students. We follow two people's journey; Anna and Theo, as they navigate teenage romance, attraction, and themselves. Explosive and heavy, but not without its moments of levity- Green Eyes takes several twists and turns, throwing its characters through an emotional ringer, but ultimately lifting them up to grow stronger. Written in the style of duologue, it's an intense story told in an explosive emotional loop. This is a story of desolation, recovery, and love.
